SIGHT SEEING IN MENORCA SPAIN

Menorca enjoys a slightly milder climate than the other Balearic Islands and so its landscape is more green and lush. The natural beauty of S’Albufera des Grau coastal nature reserve is well worth visiting to explore the wetlands and scrub of this protected area as well as the ancient Talayotic and Roman ruins that are scattered throughout the reserve. Climb Monte Toro, the highest mountain in the Balearics standing at 358 metres tall for fantastic panoramic coast to coast views across the Island and visit the nuns who live in a convent at the very top.

The stunning scenery of Menorca is well worth visiting in itself however there are plenty of man made sights that you must see as well. The Ciutadella Cathedral is one of the largest in the world, built in the 14th century, featuring Catalan-Gothic architecture. It owes its fortress like appearance to the Spanish civil war and features intricate stone carvings and decorations throughout including a collection of gargoyles.

The Xoriguer Gin Distillery is a must see to discover how the famous Xoriguer Gin is made and stock up on the special lemon flavoured Pomada gin for which Menorca is famous. You can take a tour around the 18th century distillery and watch the whole process in action, sampling the Gin and other spirits as you go along, you can also buy your favourites in the distillery shop

Menorca also has evidence of its ancient past with an abundance of prehistoric ruins of villages and temples as well as fortresses and towers from the Spanish Civil War. TheTorre de’en Gaumes, is the biggest prehistoric village in the Balearics and well worth visiting to appreciate the ancient history of the island. Whilst the mysterious Naveta dels Tudons is an ancient burial chamber shaped like the overturned bow of the ship. Dated at around 1500BC, it is the only construction of its kind and many myths exist surrounding its existence.

For an all round experience of Menorca’s history and culture visit the Museu de Menorcawhere you will find an intriguing collection of Roman, Byzantine, Arabic and Talayotic articfacts as well as prehistoric items all housed in the remains of an old Fransiscan monestary.

Take a boat ride on the Chao Praya River:  one of best things you can do in Thailand is being on Chao Praya River. Bangkok’ major tourist attractions are along the river. Besides the Grand Palace and Wat Pho, there is China Town, Temple of the Dawn, (Wat Arun) the National Museum, The Gem Stone Market and 5 Star Hotels. You can hop on and hop off for the low price of 20 baht (less than 1 US dollar) for the tourist boat or 8 baht for the local boat. You can even get a day pass to hop on and off as many times as you like for 100 baht.

Take part in the World’s Largest Water Fight: if you happen to be in Thailand during the  Songkran Festival then you don’t want to miss the festive fun. It is the hottest time of the year and what better way to cool down than to throw freezing water at each other for days on end? It is a festive time of Thailand’s New Year held in mid April and water can be seen at every angle of the streets of Thailand. The festival is the annual ritual bathing of the Buddha images and is celebrated by the Thais water fighting themselves. TRAVELING

Entering the Springtime of my life years ago
Myriads of emotions sprinkled with bouts of woe
Tested my metal and kept me sway
As I traveled a journey toward The Way.

Little did I know in the heat of the Summer
Eventually I would surmount as an overcomer
Obstacles of draughts and fires that charred my soul
As I traveled a journey toward The Goal.

As the Autumn of my life came and went
I pondered if prior seasons were well spent
Resolving to focus on others, myself as least
I now traveled a journey toward the Banquet Feast.

Now in the Wintertime of my Salvific traveling
Avenues of serenity are oft pitted by graveling
Step by stoney step I mount the steep climb
Traveling the journey toward a Heaven sublime.

Where to visit in August

Posted: July 10, 2013 in Uncategorized

kenya masai marra-ibiyinka famugbode

Every August as part of the Great Migration, the largest mass movement of animals on land, thousands of wildebeest and zebras cross the treacherous Mara River and into Kenya’s Maasai Mara in search of fresh grazing and water supplies. To be able to witness this incredible natural spectacle will make that special occasion all the more memorable.
Nature lovers can also plan a city break to the charming Canadian city of Vancouver to coincide with the arrival of pods of Orcas who come to the waters of the Strait of Georgia during the summer months.
