AFCON 2013

Africa cup of nations (AFCON) 2013 is the 29th edition of the tournament that takes place every two
years and is played by qualified African countries. The hosting country for this edition is South Africa
which follows after the decision made by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

Being the host of the next edition, South Africa automatically qualified along with 46 other countries
and many countries made their return back to the finals in this tournament. The hosting country
south Africa makes their return after a 4 year absence, Ethiopia also makes it return after a 31 year
absence and other country like Nigeria, Togo, DR Congo and Algeria make their final return after
being absent from the 2012 tournament. Some of the countries that didn’t qualify from the 2012
tournaments are Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, Libya, Senegal, Sudan, Guinea and Botswana.

The qualified countries for the 2013 tournament have been grouped into 4 groups (Group A to D)
and the list includes:

GHANA, NIGER, DR CONGO, MALI

GROUP C
ZAMBIA, BURKINA FASO, NIGERIA, ETHIOPIA

The tournament begins January 19 all and runs all through 10 February, 2013.The venues for the
stadiums are Soccer City will host the opening match and the final with capacity of 94,700. Other
venues selected for matches are Mbombela Stadium with capacity of 41,000, Nelson Mandela
Bay Stadium with capacity of 48,000, Royal Bafokeng Stadium with capacity of 42,000 and Moses
Mabhida Stadium with capacity of 54,000.
